ACUPUNCTURE

Amanda Gordon

PgDip Acu, MSc, MBAcC

I am a registered TCM (Traditional Chinese Medical) Acupuncturist and a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). Qualified to postgraduate level, I graduated from the prestigious Northern College of Acupuncture in York following three years of MSc level study.

I believe the connection between our minds and bodies to be the most fundamental axis on which our health turns. Imbalances or disharmony in the body can give rise to changes in our emotional state, energy, and our sense of wellbeing and power. Equally, emotions such as anxiety, grief and anger can disturb our physiological balance when we are unable to move through them. This fundamental relationship is at the heart of Chinese medicine, and acupuncture is a subtle, powerful tool for restoring our balance and recalibrating the subtle energies of the mind and body.

Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, I use acupuncture alongside supplementary treatment using cupping, gua sha, auricular and electroacupuncture to support you in resolving your health complaints. I am particularly interested in the use of acupuncture to alleviate stress and anxiety and its wider health impacts, headache and migraine, insomnia, and pain and musculoskeletal issues. I am passionate about women’s health, supporting women to achieve a healthy, pain-free menstrual cycle and through the physiological and emotional demands of motherhood and the perinatal period. I have also completed in-depth research on the application of auricular acupuncture to reduce preoperative anxiety in surgical patients.

Alongside clinical practice, I act as Course Director for the BSc in Acupuncture at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York, one of the UK’s longest standing and most respected acupuncture education institutions.

Born and raised in southwest London, I have lived in Sheffield for the past nine years with my Yorkshireman husband and more recently our two children, Olivia and Laurie, and our dog Bernie.
